It’s just a coincidence. The Yankees turned their season around right at that time and he’s trying to make stupid people think he’s smart by pointing it out. McCarron is typically a great writer though.

This is why I long ago stopped reading the New York sports press and turned to our newsgroup for analysis and discussion. What galls me is that these “sportswriters” get paid good money to put out garbage like this. If turning around a bad season were that easy, where would the Yankees be in the standings if Gerardi was shot by a frustrated fan that night?
