Minors Report for 9/1/10 (Jesus Montero’s 4-Hit Night; Andrew Brackman; Graham Stoneburner; Gary Sanchez; Richard Martinez; Thomas Kahlne)
Minor Leagues Report — By Tom K on September 1, 2010 10:00 pmScranton:
A double-header split tonight – first game was a 4-3 loss; the nightcap was a 4-1 victory.
Jesus Montero (who else?) actually played in both games, going 4-for-8 with a double, home run, three runs batted in, and two runs scored. He is hitting .288 with 31 doubles, three triples, 19 home runs, and 69 runs batted in. Not sure what to say at this point.
Brandon Laird went 2-for-6 in the two games, while had three hits…all in Game 1.
Hector Noesi pitched a complete game in Game 1..of course, since it was a double-header and Scranton was on the road, that CG only amounted to six innings of work. He allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out seven. He is 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA in two starts for Scranton and 14-7 with a 3.22 ERA overall between three levels (153.2 IP, 140 H, 27 BB, 147 K, 11 HR). For those who are wondering, he threw 117 innings in 2009. ——————————————————————————– Trenton:
Andrew Brackman pitched six solid innings as Trenton took a 4-2 decision.
Justin Christian hit a pair of home runs in the victory, giving him eight on the season. If you recall, Christian actually had a cup of coffee for the Yankees a few years back. He also stole his 20th base tonight (stealing bases at an outstanding rate was always one of his calling cards)
Daniel Brewer went 1-for-4 with an RBI and his 29th stolen base in the win. Christian’s two home runs and Brewer’s single represented the only three hits Trenton tallied.
Brackman allowed two runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out four in improving to 4-7 with a 3.21 ERA for Trenton (75.2 IP, 75 H, 30 BB, 67 K, 3 HR, 1.59 GO/AO). WIth his clock ticking, I do wonder if the Yankees will bring him up sometime this month just to get his feet wet in a blowout.
In five starts in August, he is 1-1 with a 1.35 ERA in 26.2 innings. Actually, he has five games and four starts – but that is only because he piggybacked an Aceves rehab appearance. ———————————————————————————————– Tampa:
Tampa outhit Trenton by one…but they scored three less in a 5-1 loss.
Zolio Almonte went 1-for-2 with a double, run scored, and a walk in the loss.
Graham Stoneburner was effective in his five inning outing, giving up two runs on six hits while walking nobody and striking out four. He is 8-5 with a 2.53 ERA (103 IP, 80 H, 24 BB, 93 K). In 142 innings at two levels, he has allowed 107 hits while walking 34 and striking out 137. However, even with this flashy numbers, he is only 9-8 on the season. He needs to learn how to win. He has to learn to pitch to the scoreboard like Jack Morris. ————————————————————————————————— Charleston:
A 7-2 loss for the Riverdogs tonight.
Slade Heathcott went 1-for-4 with a run batted in.
Shane Greene got creamed on the mound (2 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 K), but Jairo Heredia picked up the pieces nicely, throwing three scoreless innings, allowing two hits while walking two and striking out three. He is 4-2 with a 3.52 ERA for Charleston (69 IP, 73 H, 19 BB, 64 K). It is nice to see him have success in Charleston – but the Yankees were hoping for a breakout season in Tampa, where he went 0-6 with a 6.93 ERA. He is still only 20 years old (21 October 8th). —————————————————————————————————- Staten Island:
Wow, not much offense in the system tonight – other than in Scranton. But Staten Island was able to win the most tight of games – a 1-0 decision over Hudson Valley.
Gary Sanchez accounted for the only run with a solo blast, while Rob Segedin went 2-for-3 with a double. It was his second home run for Staten Island. He is only hitting .244 since his promotion. Hopefully he can get on a bit of streak as the season comes to a close.
22-year old Richard Martinez earned the win by throwing five shutout innings, allowing three hits while walking nobody and striking out six. He is 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA (16 games, 2 starts, 32 IP, 22 H, 18 BB, 34 K).
Thomas Kahlne earned the save with two shutout innings. He allowed no hits, walked one, and struck out four. His ERA sits at 0.64 (14 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 23 K). ——————————————————————————————————–
