9/8/10 (Bradley Suttle; DJ Mitchell; Dellin Betances)
Minor Leagues Report — By Tom K on September 8, 2010 9:24 pmNote: The Tampa game is currently in a delay with Tampa up 5-0 in the 4th (not an official game). So far, Bradley Suttle is 3-for-3 with three doubles and two runs batted in..so let’s hope for his sake that the game doesn’t get postponed.
Scranton:
No Jesus Montero? Yes, a problem.
Amaury Sanit gave up a game-winning two run home run in the 10th inning as Scranton lost its playoff opener, 6-4.
Nothing like bringing in a pitcher with a 7.75 regular season ERA in a tied game in the 10th.
Without Montero (who missed the game with an “infection”), there really isn’t much to report. Jorge Vazquez did homer in the 9th inning to tie the game, so that at least was exciting.
DJ Mitchell started and was erratic – 5 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR.
Erratic was the story of Mitchell’s season. His record was sparkling (13-4), but some of his other numbers weren’t too enticing: 4.00 ERA, 150.2 IP, 147 H, 64 BB, 112 K, 11 HR, 1.95 GO/AO. This is far from a terrible season – but obviously, I personally want to see that walk rate go down. ————————————– Trenton:
When you are facing the Eastern League’s version of Roy Halladay, it would appear to be a difficult night ahead.
And Kyle Drabek definitely lived up to that…unfortunately for him, Dellin Betances put on his Felix Hernandez face.
Betances went 5.1 innings, allowing no runs on two hits while walking one and striking out eight as Trenton squeaked out a 2-0 decision.
Daniel Brewer went 1-for-2 with a RBI and a walk. Trenton only managed four hits and committed three errors..but won anyway.
Trenton Thunder manager “Micro” Tony Franklin used five relievers to nail down the shutout. Pat Venditte pitched to one batter and struck him out.
