DJ Mitchell pitched eight outstanding innings while Steve Pearce drove in the only two runs of the game as Scranton defeated Rochester, 2-0.

Mitchell allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out seven as he improved to 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA (17 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 15 K)

Kevin Whelan earned the save with a perfect ninth, striking out one. ————– Trenton:

Melky Mesa clobbered a three-run home run to backup a strong team pitching effort in a 7-1 victory over Erie.

The home run was Mesa’s 4th, and he also stole his third base of the season. He is at .283/.340/.587 on the young season as he attempts to put himself back on the radar.

Ronnier Mustelier had two hits, a stolen base, and a run scored while Zoilo Almonte singled in a run.

Cory Arbiso started, lasting 4.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits. He walked one and struck out three. Ryan Pope earned the win with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits while walking one and striking out three. 26-year old right-hander Kelvin Perez increased his scoreless inning streak to begin the season to 8.1 with two scoreless innings. He has allowed two hits, though he has walked five to go with his 10 strikeouts. ————— Tampa:

    Sorry to see that Charleston was rained out. That team is loaded with prospects. Tyler Austin has been nothing short of amazing. And Jose Campos isn’t far behind. Add to the mix Dante Bichette, Mason Williams and Gary Sanchez and you’ve got what may be the top five prospects on the Yankees and all on the same team.
